There are certain restrictions that apply to ALL former employees. As a political appointee, you have additional restrictions under the Obama Ethics Pledge. The permanent restrictions are:

Lifetime bar on representing a third party before the United States on any specific party matter that you worked on while a Government employee 18 U.S.C. 207(a)(1)

One-year bar on representing or advising a third party on trade or treaty negotiations under 18 U.S.C. 207(b)

Prohibition on receiving compensation in matters affecting the Government under 18 U.S.C. 203
