What Does It All SummaryMean?

The bottom line is that you have to be very careful to not run afoul of Federal ethics laws and implementation regulations when you are looking for another job. You are still a Government employee until the day you leave Federal service.

Remember that you:

  • Can't participate in official matters that affect anyone with whom you are seeking employment

  • Must contact OGC/Ethics when you begin negotiations for a new job

  • File an OGE-278 Financial Disclosure Form no earlier than your last day and no later than 30 days after you leave.

  • Can't take official records with you

  • Should contact your Deputy Ethics Official, Regional Ethics Counsel or OGC/Ethics if you have questions

Now let's examine what your ethics obligations are after you terminate Federal service.
