After You Leave...You Person fishing....but with sharks under the water! Are Covered By The Post-Employment Statute

After you leave government service, you are no longer covered by the same ethics laws and implementing regulations as when you were in Federal service. However, be aware that you can still get in trouble for violations of the law that occurred while you were a Government employee.

Most importantly, even after you leave the Federal service, you are still covered by 18 U.S.C. 207 (the post-employment statute). This law prohibits you from representing outside parties back to the Government on certain particular matters that you worked on. Some of these prohibitions are lifetime bans and some last one or two years. There are also certain exceptions to these bans and we'll cover the most common ones.

Lastly, as a non-career employee, you are going to be covered by the Obama ethics pledge that you signed.
