Applicability Tool (version with current GWPs)

Calculation Utility for Onshore Natural Gas Transmission Pipeline Facility

Calculate estimated emissions from facility pipeline blowdowns (i.e., the metric tons CO2e) for reporting year 2010. 2011. 2012. 2013. 2014. 2015. 2016. 2017.

Instructions. Use this calculation utility to assess whether your onshore natural gas transmission pipeline facility is subject to the rule. That is, after entering the first three values below, select the Calculate button to generate an estimate of facility CO2e emissions from pipeline blowdowns. Then select the Next button to advance to the assessment.

Calculation Variables Value Unit of Measure
Volume fraction of methane (CH4) in the pipeline natural gas* (decimal fraction)
Volume fraction of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the pipeline natural gas** (decimal fraction)
Estimated annual volume of natural gas vented from the transmission pipeline facility during transmission pipeline blowdowns during the year*** Standard Cubic Feet (scf)
Facility CO2e Emissions From Pipeline Blowdowns Metric tons CO2e

* You may enter a default value of 0.95 if you do not know the actual fraction of CH4.
** You may enter a default value of 0.01 if you do not know the actual fraction of CO2.
*** Do not include blowdown vent stack emissions from depressurizing transmission pipelines that are sent to a flare.
