Air Quality Around the World

Did you know that AirNow has air quality data from more than a dozen sites around the world? Now, the same Air Quality Index you can use to learn about air quality in US cities is available for monitors at US embassies and consulates.

EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy and Secretary of State John Kerry formally established the EPA and the Department of State (DoS) partnership in February 2015. Since then, EPA has created a new “Embassies and Consulates” page on AirNow.gov, while DoS has been installing monitors at sites all around the globe. Currently, 14 posts report the AQI: five in India, two in Jakarta, one in Mongolia, two in Vietnam, one in Colombia, one in Peru, one in Bangladesh and one in Kosovo. In the upcoming year we expect an additional dozen posts to join this effort.

Interest in AirNow and the Air Quality Index has been increasing internationally in other ways as well. A new website offers support to air quality professionals worldwide. At https://www.airnow.gov/international, you can learn more about how AirNow through the AirNow-International initiative is helping countries and regions around the world inform the public about the quality of the air they breathe.
