Regulated Emissions Sources

The Acid Rain Program (ARP) and the Cross-State Air Pollution Rule’s (CSAPR)1 sulfur dioxide (SO₂) and nitrogen oxides (NOₓ) emission reduction programs apply to large power plants that burn fossil fuels to generate electricity for sale. The Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) only cover large power plants that burn coal or oil to generate electricity for sale and excludes gas-fired units, resulting in fewer units in MATS than in the ARP and CSAPR.

  1. CSAPR refers to the CSAPR, the CSAPR Update, and the Revised CSAPR Update programs.
