Hatch House with campaign signAct

The Hatch Act regulates the "political activities" of all federal employees in the executive branch of government, with the exception of the President and Vice President. Political activities are directed toward the success or failure of a political party, a candidate for partisan political office, or a partisan political group. Violation of the Hatch act range from 30 days suspension without pay to removal from your position.

So, does the Hatch Act apply to you? The answer is...YES!

Most Government employees have relatively few restrictions on what they can do outside of the workplace while not on official duty. For example, there are are certain restrictions concerning fundraising and running as a candidate in a partisan election. However, some senior employees have more restrictions on them than other employees. For more information, check out OGC's handy "Do's and Don'ts" on the Hatch Act. (Link to Hatch Act Chart)
