Model Parameter Evaluation
Review of the modeling report is needed to evaluate the claims made for these model results. The OnSite calculators are useful for checking the input data used in the model, and to see if the estimated extent of contamination--from the site data--matches what we know about transport at the site.
The questions for the OnSite calculators are
- Are the input parameter values reasonable? This table shows the input values used in the modeling report for four parameters. We'll look at each of these parameters and make a judgement concerning its value.
Parameters for Review Parameter Value Bulk Density 2.65 g/cm3 Retardation Factor 10 Longitudinal Dispersivity 18.7 feet Half Life 1277 days
Some of these values should raise a red flag. In fact, some of them should raise two red flags. We'll see which ones do as we go on.
-
- What's the travel time to the property boundary?
- What contaminant concentration would be expected at that boundary?
There are other questions to be answered about the modeling done at this site, and OnSite cannot answer them all. It does allow easy calculation of the model parameters and forms the foundation of further evaluation of the modeling. An expanded presentation of this site is contained in the Internet Modeling Course.
