One of the most important aspects of plume diving is the need to screen wells over the appropriate interval. If wells are only screened near the water table, then a diving plume can be missed as the contaminant distribution may be located below the bottom of the well screens.
The graphic illustrates the effect of screen placement. The yellow band represents the location of the screen and the red line, the distribution of the chemical. In the instance illustrated the well is too high and misses the peak of the distribution.
