This webpage is intended to provide information regarding the PM10-2.5 (coarse) Chemical Speciation Pilot Project. The PM10-2.5 speciation pilot provides information for future development and implementation of a PM10-2.5 speciation monitoring program. Several issues need further exploration in order to develop a long-term PM10-2.5 speciation monitoring plan. The EPA is managing a pilot project at a two locations (Phoenix and St. Louis) to aid our understanding of the issues associated with PM10-2.5 speciation monitoring and the most appropriate way to measure PM10-2.5 species in the future. The pilot study began sampling in May 2010 and completed sample collection in May 2011.
The primary objective for PM10-2.5 speciation data in the future is for scientific purposes to support further research in understanding the chemical composition and sources of PM10, PM10-2.5, and PM2.5.

- PM10-2.5 Speciation Pilot Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) – The QAPP was completed and approved in April 2010, prior to the start of sample collection. The QAPP and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) used for the project is provided below. There are many SOPs for conducting the laboratory operations and field support activities. Several of the SOPs that were approved and in used for the PM2.5 Chemical Speciation Network (CSN) are also being used for this pilot study.
