This document describes various technical details about installation and setup of the Test Method Selection system. 1)Download SELECT18.EXE to a local directory (e.g., c:\method). Using a 14.4 modem, this download will take approximately 20 minutes. 2) SELECT18.EXE, the self extracting ZIP file, MUST be extracted using the PKUNZIP utility located in the Outreach/Software, <4> Software option of the BBS, with the -d flag, as follows: c:\method> SELECT18 -d If properly unzipped, two subdirectories, DISK1 and DISK2, should appear beneath the target directory. Failure to include the -d flag will prevent successful installation of the software. 3) To install the method selection software, run SETUP.EXE that appears in the DISK1 subdirectory using the File...,Run on Windows Program Manager main menu. Follow the prompts. You may also start the SETUP.EXE program by double-clicking on it in the Windows File Manager program. 4) Upon successful installation of the Method Selection software, the METHOD.EXE self-extracting zip file may be deleted. 5) This systems requires Microsoft Windows 3.1 (or a compatible operating system) and at least 4 megabytes of RAM for proper operation. 6) The installation program may alter the CONFIG.SYS file on the target machine to increase file and buffer sizes and/or add the SHARE option. If this occurs, your original CONFIG.SYS file will be copied to a file named CONFIG.MTH. 7) The following files will reside in the sub-directory you choose during the installation process (which defaults to c:\Method). Please note that many of these files are Dynamic Link Library files (DLLs). We have chosen to place these files in the same sub-directory as the executable program. This is to insure that any existing DLLs on your system are not overwritten. This may cause conflicts with other Visual Basic programs that are simultaneously running on your system. It is up to you to decide if you wish to upgrade your current DLLs (most likely residing in your Windows\System sub-directory) with those provided. If you decide to do this, please back up your original files before overwriting them.
