NOTICE TO CTC SUBSCRIBERS The Control Technology Center recently released a report on VOC control of fiberglass boat manufacturing emissions, report EPA-600/2-90-019. In the report the acronym, ACC, was used to define a generic spray gun design which uses an air envelope to shape the gun discharge thus potentially increasing the efficiency of the gun over conventional systems. At the time of writing the report it was not realized that the term ACC was considered by the industry as synonymous with the trademarked Glas-Craft Inc., patented Air Assist Containment equipment which uses the acronym ACC. The use of the ACC acronym may have been interpreted to imply endorsement of the trademarked equipment. Please be advised that an endorsement of the specific trademarked equipment was not intended. Many spray gun equipment manufacturers have systems that utilize shaping air to define the spray pattern and thus were intended to be included in the generic category. The inside cover of the report states, "This report has been reviewed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and approved for publication. Approval does not signify that the contents necessarily reflect the views and policy of the Agency, nor does mention of trade names or commercial products constitute endorsement or recommendation for use." If there are any questions about the intent of the discussions in the report, please call Charles H. Darvin at (919) 541-7633.
