What's New in STORET Version 2.0??
In the new STORET System v2.0, there are hundreds of additions and enhancements from previously
released versions. We'll attempt to bring attention to a handful of the most important
and most visible changes, but this is by no means a comprehensive document detailing
every change to the system. Complete table and field definitions of STORET v2.0 are included on the CD-ROM,
along with a variety of other useful documentation. If you have further questions concerning

STORET v2.0 is fully supported on Windows 98 SE, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP operating systems.
The STORET system requires a connection to an Oracle database of at least version 8i (8.1.7).
On a single workstation, this can be achieved by running Oracle 8.1.7 Personal Edition.
A client/server setup must have Oracle 8.1.7 client software, and Oracle 8.1.7 or higher on the server.
For the first time, STORET v2.0 supports all of the EPA standard taxonomic nomenclature from
the Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS). This allows users to store information about over
320,000 different species and their hierarchical classification.
Another feature added to STORET v2.0 is the ability to store documents in various areas of
the database. These include such standard format files such as ASCII text (.txt) and Adobe
Acrobat format (.pdf) documents. Users can now store Project Design and Quality Assurance Project
Plan documents in the Project Description area. Documents that describe an organization's analytical
methods and field sampling protocols can be stored in the Citation area. Also, native data logger
electronic files can be stored in the database allowing the original output file to be shared.
STORET v2.0 also supports the ability to store graphics and digital pictures in the database.
Standard image files (.bmp, .jpg, .gif) can help describe the location of a monitoring station
by including a map with the station description. Pictures can add value to monitoring results
by documenting the conditions experienced on a field visit or capturing the status of aquatic
life for a habitat assessment.
Probability-based monitoring designs have gained increased importance and popularity over
the past few years. STORET v2.0 now allows data describing a probabilistic survey, including
station weights and project design documentation, to be stored in the database.
