January 2016: Approval of the Phoenix CO Maintenance Area's Second
10-Year Maintenance Plan 

January 25, 2016: EPA approved the State of Arizona's request, submitted by the state on April 2, 2013, that we approve the 2013 Maintenance Plan for the Phoenix carbon monoxide maintenance area as a revision to the Arizona State Implementation Plan. The plan addresses continued maintenance in the area for the carbon monoxide (CO) national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS) for another ten years, until 2025. EPA redesignated the area to attainment and approved the first maintenance plan in 2005. EPA also found adequate and approved the plan's motor vehicle emissions budget (MVEB) for 2025.

September 2015: Proposed Approval of the Phoenix CO Maintenance Area's
Second 10-Year Maintenance Plan

September 30, 2015: EPA proposed to approve a request, submitted by the State of Arizona on April 2, 2013, that we approve the 2013 Maintenance Plan for the Phoenix carbon monoxide maintenance area as a revision to the Arizona State Implementation Plan. The plan addresses continued maintenance in the area for the carbon monoxide (CO) national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS) for another ten years, until 2025. EPA redesignated the area to attainment and approved the first maintenance plan in 2005. EPA also proposed to find adequate and to approve the plan's motor vehicle emissions budget (MVEB) for 2025. The proposal provides a 30-day comment period.

January 2005: Final Redesignation for Carbon Monoxide

January 3, 2005: EPA redesignated the Phoenix metropolitan area in Arizona to attainment for the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) for carbon monoxide and approved the attainment demonstration and maintenance plan showing maintenance of the CO standard through 2015. EPA also finalized a boundary change that removes the Gila River Indian Community (GRIC) from the Phoenix CO maintenance area.
