Area Designations for 1997 Fine Particle (PM2.5) Standards

1997 PM2.5 Standards — Region 10 Recommendations and EPA Responses

EPA has requested that states and tribes submit recommendations to EPA for PM2.5 attainment and nonattainment areas by February 15, 2004. EPA responded to state and tribal recommendations on April 28 and 29, 2004, and designations will be finalized by the end of 2004.

State recommendations and EPA response letters are presented below.

EPA Intended Designations (Not Final)

EPA will make official designations by the end of 2004. A map showing the states' recommendations is available below the recommendation and response documents.

These responses are provided here in PDF format for INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY and do not represent EPA's views on the appropriateness or adequacy of a state's or a tribe's recommendations.

2004 State PM2.5 Designation Recommendations

Counties recommended as nonattainment are shaded red on the map, attainment and unclassifiable counties are shaded beige, counties under consideration for nonattainment but not recommended either way are shaded orange, and states and counties for which no recommendation has been received are shaded gray.
States may have made recommendations of partial counties. Any partial counties are shown as whole counties on this map. EPA will make official designations by the end of 2004.
