Misuse of Position

The Standards of Ethical Conduct prohibit "misuse of position." This relates to the:

• Use of your public office for private gain (for yourself or anyone else)
• Use of nonpublic information (includes confidential business info.)
• Use of Government property (computers, copiers, etc.)
• Use of official time (reserved for official duties)

Example of something that is not permitted: You're on an IPA assignment to do research at the University of South Woebegone. The University is seeking an EPA grant and will use part of that grant to pay your salary. You give the University nonpublic information you get from a friend at EPA to help them get the grant.
