Sorption (Retardation)

The sorption of chemicals is represented in the transport equation by the retardation constant (R):

Sorption term in the transport equation.
This form of the equation assumes that there is a linear, equilibrium partitioning between some fraction of the contaminant and the aquifer solids. Although this approach is simplified, it is the most commonly encountered in models.
