Example Fuels

Since it is unlikely that fuel compositions are determined at many sites, much less the composition of the fuel that was released, a set of example fuel compositions are built into On-Site. The MTBE-Gasoline data were collected from service stations on Long Island in 1996. In one case the gasoline contained far less MTBE than needed to meet the State's requirement. This situation provided examples of high and low MTBE contents for most gasoline grades.

Since all the examples contained MTBE, an analogous set of non-MTBE gasolines was approximated by assuming that the MTBE gasolines were made by blending MTBE with gasoline manufactured as it otherwise would be. Here the absence of the MTBE is assumed to slightly increase the mass fractions of all other consituents. Mass fractions were calculated from the original data.
