Many different sizes and shapes of blobs are possible in realistic porous media. This photo shows many different blobs and their distribution throughout the sand pack. Fuzzy, ghost-like blobs that seem to appear behind certain grains are actually additional branches that go behind the plane of the photo. One of these ghosts is above the top of the "F" in the photo at left.
