2019 Air Quality Awareness Week

Check the air and get ouside.

On behalf of our AirNow partners – NOAA National Weather Service, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Forest Service, and the U.S. Department of State – EPA is pleased to announce that Air Quality Awareness Week (AQAW) 2019 will be held April 29 – May 3, 2019.

The theme for this year is Check the AQI & Get Outside. Our goal is to promote events that increase air quality awareness and encourage people to check the Air Quality Index (AQI) to find out the best time of the day to be active outdoors.

We plan to focus on the following daily topics this year, featuring one each day on the AQAW website:

  • Monday - Your Heart & Lungs
  • Tuesday - Wildfires & Smoke
  • Wednesday - Air Quality Index & Sensors
  • Thursday - Air Quality and Your Community
  • Friday - Air Quality Around the World

EPA will make the website live Monday, April 29, the first day of AQAW (see https://www.airnow.gov/airaware).

We would love to help spread the word about your AQAW programs and events. Please send information about your events to lee.debra@epa.gov as soon as you have it available, and we will post it on our events page. (For examples from 2018, visit https://www3.epa.gov/airnow/airaware/local2018.html.) And don’t forget to tag @airnow in your social media posts. We will be using the hashtag #AQAW2019 this year. You are welcome to post comments to the AirNow Facebook page to let everyone know how your events are going.

Please give Debra Lee a call with any questions or comments at (919) 541-0860, or email her at lee.debra@epa.gov.
