Renewable Energy and Jobs in Low-Income Communities

Jared Blumenfeld presents award to ASU

GRID Alternatives of Oakland, Calif., provides renewable energy and energy efficiency services, equipment and training to low-income communities. It developed a solar affordable housing program that has trained more than 8,000 community volunteers and job trainees who have installed more than 2,000 photovoltaic solar power systems.

Supporting Sustainable Cities

EPA’s Green Government Award was presented to Arizona State University’s Sustainable Cities Network, which bridges the gap between the university’s research and communities working to advance solar and renewable energy, mitigate urban heat islands, and deal with water challenges associated with a changing climate.

Honoring Climate Leaders

The of Port San Diego, San Diego Gas and Electric, and the Sonoma County Water Agency were among the winners of the 2013 Climate Leadership Awards (CLA).  The CLA is a national awards program that recognizes and incentivizes exemplary corporate, organizational, and individual leadership in response to climate change.

Protecting People from Toxic Landfill Gas

After violating air pollution laws, the Waimanalo Gulch Landfill on the island of Oahu is being required to implement enhanced gas monitoring to reduce the threat of underground fires at the landfill.
