Land-Based Prevention

  • Support trash TMDLs & stormwater permit requirements
  • Focus on LA Basin, SF Bay Region & Honolulu trash requirements:
    • LA - zero by 2016
    • SF Bay - zero by 2022
    • Honolulu - proposed
  • Support key CA initiatives:
    • Development of Water Board trash policy
    • Implementation of pre-production plastic pellet control program

Ocean Assessment & Cleanup

  • Prepare Preliminary Assessment Report: Marine Debris in the North Pacific
  • Conduct assessments to fill critical data gaps concerning nature & extent of debris, and aquatic life impacts
  • Test innovative cleanup technologies

Land-Based Reduction

  • Develop "white paper" on economic burden on local government
  • Work with stakeholders to implement source reduction of most commonly found debris items
  • Inspection and enforcement of pellet transit nodes and/or plastic manufacturing facilities
