Westford Train Derailment
EPA learned of a train derailment in Westford, Mass. through a local news report, which said "about 12 cars had been knocked off the tracks, two of them carrying liquefied petroleum gas." EPA contacted the Mass. Dept. of Environmental Protection, which was not yet aware of the incident. EPA and MADEP mobilized personnel to the site, which was just south of the Stony Brook Reservoir and near tributaries leading to the reservoir. There was no contamination released, no evacuations were necessary, nor were there reports of injuries.
