EPA Announces West Lake Landfill Isolation Barrier Decision

EPA Announces West Lake Landfill Isolation Barrier Decision, Dec. 31, 2015

EPA Region 7 has announced its decision to proceed with the installation of a physical isolation barrier for the West Lake Landfill Superfund Site in Bridgeton, Mo.

EPA Statement on Bridgeton Rain Runoff

EPA Region 7 is aware of the runoff event that occurred Dec. 28 at the Bridgeton Landfill. Following a period of intense rainfall, excess surface water flowed into an adjacent drainage ditch along St. Charles Rock Road. Since the runoff event occurred at the Bridgeton Landfill, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) is the lead agency. We are working in close coordination with MDNR, providing technical support and guidance as requested by the state. As the runoff came from within the Bridgeton Landfill, it is unlikely that it transported any radiological materials located in Operable Unit 1 of the West Lake Landfill Superfund Site. EPA continues to monitor the situation.
