The EPA has determined that the Facility met the migration of contaminated groundwater under control indicator and current human exposures under control indicator on December 15, 2014. EPA's review of available information indicates that there are no unaddressed releases of hazardous waste or hazardous constituents from the Facility. Based on that assessment, EPA's proposed on June 24, 2015 that no further
investigation or cleanup is required, and the decision became final on July 25, 2015.
Beginning in 1979, Betz Laboratories (Betz) produced specialty chemicals in Langhorne, PA. The facility produced several hundred types of liquid polymers and blended products in batch operations from dry and liquid materials that were formulated to meet customer-specific applications. Betz ceased operations in 2004 and the facility is currently used as a warehouse by National Refrigeration Products.
Betz removed several ASTs and UST under PADEP oversight. At one UST location, evidence of a release resulted in a groundwater monitoring system to be constructed in 1993. Monitoring for TPH and BETX continued until 1994. TPH was found occasionally at levels below any potential threat. PADEP approved the discontinuation of the monitoring system in December 1994.
