The State of Wisconsin is committed to energy independence as a way to increase energy security and climate stewardship. Currently, the State is purchasing more than 148 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, including purchases made by and for the University of Wisconsin system (not shown on this page) please visit the Green Power Partner Profiles of the University of Wisconsin Madison, UW Oshkosh and UW Stevens Point, green power leaders in this state. Additionally, Wisconsin state agencies and Universities have been successful in reducing their rate of energy use (Btu per gross square feet weather adjusted, from a 2005 baseline) by 18.9% percent as of June 30, 2015. Moreover, all Wisconsin electric utilities must source 10 percent for their electricity sales from renewable sources by 2015.
