Partner Profile
The State of New Hampshire owns about 700 buildings within the state, including a state hospital, many retail liquor stores, regional Department of Transportation support facilities, IT centers, and labs, along with the standard office buildings that are required to operate state government. From these buildings, the state aggregates over 500 of the largest electricity accounts and purchases electricity for them through a competitive bidding process. As part of this process, the state requests pricing to obtain 25 percent of this power from renewable sources to help meet the Governor's initiative of reducing the state's dependence on fossil fuels. This year the State expects to purchase approximately 26 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable power. The State is doing more; construction was recently completed on a biomass cogeneration facility and hydro plant that will serve one of the State's off-grid facilities. Generating its own green power will result in significant savings to the state both in energy costs and impacts to the environment. Solar PV is also entering the mix with the first significant installation on a state-building approved for 2016. This system will be approximately 100 kW in size and offset the power used onsite.
