Partner Profile
Santa Clara University, a comprehensive Jesuit, Catholic university located in California's Silicon Valley, is California's oldest operating higher-education institution. Santa Clara University is committed to developing a culture of sustainability with its students, faculty, and staff. The University signed the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment in 2007 and has a goal of becoming climate neutral (Scopes 1, 2, and 3) by the end of 2020. The SCU campus is home to two Solar Decathlon award-winning solar houses. SCU has 1,100.1 kW of onsite solar generation, a 10-kW wind turbine, and a 60-collector solar thermal system. Our electricity provider's power mix is at least 25 percent renewable, so we purchase wind power from Silicon Valley Power's Green Power Program to cover 100 percent of our electricity needs. SCU also now supports a Campus Sustainability Investment Fund that supports student, faculty, and staff-initiated ideas that move the University campus closer to climate neutrality.
