New York-based Remains Lighting offers antique lighting fixtures and manufactures meticulously crafted custom lighting. The Remains Lighting Permanent Collection is an exclusive array of original designs, made in a sustainable environment with highest quality materials, sophisticated construction techniques, and old world hand finishing.
Remains’ factory in Bushwick, Brooklyn is at the centerpiece of its sustainability efforts. A 16.5 kW solar power array on the roof of the Brooklyn factory provides up to 30 percent of the company’s electric power. The company buys 100 percent wind power for its flagship Manhattan showroom and the balance of its power needs in the Brooklyn factory.
Remains owner David Calligeros has worked to put his environmental ethics into practice over the past fifteen years of running the business. “I have steered my company on a path to sustainable practice that is thorough-going, deeply examined, and not without significant investment. From a commitment to buy 100 percent wind power nearly a decade ago to producing our own power with a 16.5 kW solar array in 2009, we’ve made the investments to pursue a sustainable business strategy that might make your average Wall St. guy cry… but we take our measure at a triple bottom line.”
