Based on the conviction that what is good for the community is good for the company, Price Chopper Supermarkets continues to place an ever increasing emphasis on the development and implementation of a comprehensive corporate environmental sustainability architecture. It is within the context of that ethos that Price Chopper is focusing on stewardship-related, business approaches and Corporate Social Responsibility.
To support these efforts, Price Chopper is currently purchasing and using a significant amount of green power. The company has elected to pursue this course as a means of reducing the greenhouse gas emissions profile associated with the production of the electricity that is required to operate its 130 individual store locations and all supporting infrastructure.
“Purchasing green power reflects the belief that it is our corporate responsibility to include electric power produced from a more environmentally sustainable source in our utility portfolio. By purchasing 12,000 Megawatt hours of green power in the form of third-party-certified RECs, we are preferentially selecting (for) renewable resource energy and prioritizing power that has been generated with (a) minimal environmental impact,” Joe Berman, Manager of Sustainability, LEED AP BD&C.
