Park City, located in Summit County, Utah, is an internationally recognized four season destination resort. Park City's permanent resident population is 8,558 and its average daily population is 21,000 (including full-time residents, part-time residents, and daily visitors). Once the second largest silver producing town in the United States, Park City is home to the Sundance Film Festival and three world famous ski resorts: Deer Valley Resort, Park City Mountain Resort & The Canyons Resort. Park City has preserved over 7,000 acres of open space through taxpayer-voted purchases and development agreements. The City has initiated many municipal environmental sustainability programs including a green building policy for municipal structures, a green purchasing policy, a ban on plastic water bottles at City-funded events, a bio-diesel bus fleet, a City-wide idling ordinance, and a City employee bike-share program. A recent municipal energy efficiency & renewable energy project reduced municipal greenhouse gas emissions by 12 percent. Park City completed its municipal carbon footprint in August 2008 and was the first in Utah to conduct a community-wide carbon greenhouse gas inventory in April 2009. Park City continues to track municipal energy consumption and its carbon footprint on an annual basis.
