Other World Computing (OWC) has provided quality hardware products and support to the computer industry since 1988. On October 19, 2009, OWC became one of the first technology manufacturers/distributors in the U.S. to use on-site wind powered by switching its daily operations energy needs over to a Vestas V39-500 kW wind turbine.
On-site powered, OWC can partially run its resource-conserving, low environmental impact designed facility and internet operations datacenter on this renewable, non-polluting power source. The self-funded wind turbine project is estimated to generate 1.25 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year. OWC chose this commercial model turbine to insure that there would always be adequate energy for future growth. OWC made the decision to become a zero-emission company because of the conservational benefits, as well as the future cost of energy.
As part of its ongoing “Green” mission, OWC installed rooftop solar panels in its Austin TX facility in March 2014 and continues seeking new ways to reduce power usage in its three facilities, conserve natural resources, work toward a "Zero Waste" goal, and lessen its carbon footprint.
