Partner Profile
Oakhurst markets and sells a full line of refrigerated milk and dairy products including fluid milk, cream, sour cream, cottage cheese, butter, ice cream mixes, juices, teas, drinks and water.

In 2006, Oakhurst set a goal to improve fuel efficiency and reduce fleet greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution by 20%. To do that, Oakhurst purchased four hybrid trucks, increased aerodynamics and, most importantly, converted to biodiesel, becoming the first large private fleet in the Northeast to do so.

In 2009 Oakhurst installed 216 solar panels on its warehouse facility in Waterville, Maine, creating the largest solar photovoltaic energy system installation in the State of Maine at that time.

Today, not only has Oakhurst successfully converted its entire fleet of 138 vehicles to biodiesel, but Oakhurst has also proven that it is feasible to do so in the Northeast. Through experimentation, Oakhurst improved its blend of biodiesel from 5% to over 50% in summer months, improving the delivery process in a more sustainable way. Initially biodiesel provided a resource that reduced the company's environmental foot-print, but ultimately it has allowed Oakhurst to develop better business practices since it has reduced costs and helped the community develop a better recycling process to handle restaurant oils.
