Six years ago Norwood School, a K-8 independent school in Bethesda, Maryland, made the commitment to purchase 100% wind power as part of its efforts to reduce, reuse, and recycle. The school is proud of the fact that to date the school has used wind power to cover all of its electricity use. With the phrase “how you lead your life matters” serving as the school’s guiding principle, the decision to switch to green power came from the students who inspire the school every day to respect the planet.
During the last year an Energy Task Force was formed to look at energy efficiency projects (such as facility improvements and energy awareness programs) that are designed to meet two objectives: minimize energy consumption/costs and promote energy awareness and conservation values. We recently converted 40 exterior lights to LED fixtures.
