Big Bend Resorts currently purchases 1 million kilowatt hours annually representing a 100 percent commitment to green power through the use of wind renewable energy certificates, a resource that does not pollute and will not run out. This use of green power reduces conventional electricity consumption, diminishes carbon dioxide impact, and reduces fossil fuel air pollutants --- common goals at all Forever Resorts property holdings.
Corporate wind power purchases such as this help set a standard for the lodging industry and represent a natural extension of the Forever Resorts commitment to sustainable business practices. Contracting to buy renewable energy indicates another step forward in reducing the company's organizational footprint.
Because energy use is such a significant contributor to environmental impacts --- especially in the lodging industry --- wind power purchases call attention to the issue for others, raising public awareness of --- and helping create more demand for --- green power.
Big Bend Resorts also works with National Park Service personnel on other innovative energy conservation measures by recently installing solar lighting through the exterior of buildings creating "Dark Skies" for star gazing in the Park and further reducing electric consumption by 90 percent.
