Partner Profile
Colorado State University has long been a leader in adopting environmentally friendly approaches to campus operations, from composting cafeteria waste to new construction which meets the highest sustainability standards. Today, the University continues to focus on these activities while also emphasizing research solutions to the problem of global sustainability and education of the green-collar workforce. On the University's Foothills Campus, CSU hosts a 5,300 kW solar electric system that provides over 30 percent of the electricity needs of that campus. Among other green initiatives the University runs the state forest service and nursery, which produces more than 2 million seedling trees each year; and it developed its own wetlands to process plant waste from campus greenhouses. Also, CSU runs the Green Warrior campaign, a campus-wide campaign to encourage sustainable behaviors among students. Colorado State spinoff companies are helping to clean air in developing nations through development and distribution of clean burning stoves and devices to cut carbon emissions of motorcycle taxis.
