The City of Gresham seeks to utilize 100 percent renewable energy for all City operations by 2030. Currently, the city's wastewater treatment plant (the fourth largest energy consumer within the City) has an onsite energy generation through a combination of solar, cogeneration using methane from the treatment plant, and green power purchases. They met their goal of net zero in March of 2015. The WWTP has built infrastructure and is currently accepting Fats Oils, and Grease to increase methane production and has recently installed a second cogen engine to produce more renewable energy. At City Hall, the City of Gresham has installed a 96kw elevated solar awning over part of the parking areas as well as two "solar trees" in our courtyard area in addition to other energy efficiency efforts. In 2013 the City began replacing 8000 streetlights with high efficiency LED streetlights. The City adopted a Sustainability Plan for City Operations in 2010 that established the 2030 renewable energy goal as well as other sustainability goals. It also has formed an energy management workgroup to provide the City with guidance towards achieving it energy efficiency goals. The City seeks to accomplish its goals through energy conservation, on-site renewable generation, and green power purchasing.
