As a charter signatory of the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment, Chatham University is proud to be a leader in sustainability. Green power is a priority of the Chatham Climate Action Plan and will play an extremely important role in Chatham meeting its goal of reducing carbon emissions to zero by the year 2025.
A purchaser of renewable power since 2002, Chatham now purchases renewable energy credits equal to its electricity use each year, totaling over 12 million kilowatt-hours in 2015. In addition, Chatham installed the largest solar thermal water heating system of its kind in Pennsylvania, and one of the top 10 largest in the country. Chatham has earned a Gold rating from AASHE STARS.
Sustainability has been integrated into the fabric of Chatham University at all levels, including operations, curriculum, student life, research, interactions with and connections to community members, neighbors, peers, and policy makers. Chatham’s commitment to green power is one part of that wider commitment.
