Partner Profile
As a charter signatory of the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment, Chatham University is proud to be a leader in sustainability. Green power is a priority of the Chatham Climate Action Plan and will play an extremely important role in Chatham meeting its goal of reducing carbon emissions to zero by the year 2025.

The Environmental Protection Agency named Chatham the 2011-2012 Individual Conference Champion for using more green power than any other school in its conference. A purchaser of renewable power since 2002, Chatham now purchases renewable energy credits equal to its electricity use each year, totaling over 9 million kilowatt-hours in 2014. In addition, Chatham installed the largest solar thermal water heating system of its kind in Pennsylvania, and one of the top 10 largest in the country. The Princeton Review’s Guide to 322 Green Colleges, produced in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council, also recently recognized Chatham’s green initiatives. Chatham has earned a Gold rating from AASHE STARS.

Sustainability has been integrated into the fabric of Chatham University at all levels, including operations, curriculum, student life, research, interactions with and connections to community members, neighbors, peers, and policy makers. Chatham’s commitment to green power is one part of that wider commitment.
