Partner Profile
Carnegie Mellon University, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a founding Green Power Partner and a recipient of a 2001 Green Power Leadership Award. By purchasing 119 million kilowatt-hours of third-party certified, renewable energy certificates from national wind sources, the university receives 100 percent of its electricity from renewable sources. As a retail subaccount electricity purchaser, Carnegie Mellon continues to seek ways to reduce its carbon footprint with pilot renewable generation on campus and its conversion from coal to 100 percent natural gas firing of the boiler plant owned jointly with other Pittsburgh institutions.
