California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is a public institution serving over 18,000 students with two geographic locations in Southern California: The main campus in San Bernardino and a satellite campus in Palm Desert.
CSUSB is part of the California State University system, which has established executive policy since 1989 to support renewable energy wherever cost-effective. In August 2007, CSUSB energized its first on-site renewable power generation with two rooftop photovoltaic arrays on the San Bernardino campus, followed by a much larger ground-mount array and a second rooftop array, both operational in September 2010. Together, CSUSB’s on-site renewable energy systems currently supply campus facilities with nearly 2 million kilowatt-hours of renewable power per year.
In addition to on-site generation, CSUSB facilities are supplied with electricity purchased from utilities required to provide a minimum 20 percent renewable resources in California.
