Apex Express is a same-day transportation company that uses couriers, bobtails, and trucks to deliver anything locally, regionally, or in the country SAME DAY with air freight. The company has been carbon neutral since 2012 after it increased its on-site solar array. Apex Express has two buildings covered with solar panels that provide all of the electricity for the buildings and electric vehicles. Apex Express wanted to be green and knowing that their utility would reimburse much of the solar install cost, along with the government’s 30% tax credit, was a huge contributing factor in their decision to install solar on the company buildings.
The hardest thing for the company to overcome was the upfront cost of the solar installations. The company knew it would benefit from the free energy for 25+ years, but the breakeven point for the install is about 3 years. The biggest benefit they found is that the payoff can be quicker if electricity prices rise or if there are more sunny days than expected. Apex Express experienced both.
"Becoming a 110% green power user was not our goal when we decided to install solar, but reducing our carbon footprint was. We have exceeded our plans on reducing our energy bill for our company, and it feels awesome knowing we are carbon neutral," said Jay Squyres, President Apex Express, Inc.
