Policy SummaryMaine's Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) has two separate classes of eligible resources: Class I and Class II. Class II resources include electricity generated by efficient existing CHP facilities and other systems that qualify under the federal Public
CHP Eligibility RequirementsBoth fossil-fueled and renewably-fueled CHP systems are eligible under the RPS.
Eligible Project Size (MW)CHP systems <100 MW (termed "small power production facilities") are eligible under Class II in the RPS.

Other Performance Requirements
CHP systems must have a 60% efficiency rate and must have begun operation prior to January 1, 1997, unless they are renewably fueled systems and then a start date of after September 1, 2005 applies.
