Plants
and Animals Around Lucy Lake
Forests in the northeastern United States are made up of many different
kinds of trees. Some kinds of trees are fir, spruce, maple, oak,
and hickory. Moss is a plant often found on the forest floor. Phytoplankton
are microscopic plants and other creatures that depend on the sun
for energy and usually live at the water's surface.
Many different types of animals live in high mountain lakes, including
trout, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, and shiners. Crayfish often
live in healthy streams. Mayflies, mosquitos, dragonflies, and other
insects also live in the area, providing food for frogs, fish, salamanders,
and birds.
Snails, turtles, frogs, salamanders, loons, and otters live in
the area too.
